Inspired by her father's enthusiasm for PBS NewsHour, Kim was drawn to the realm of media from a young age. Penn State University, where she pursued Mass Media and Communications, specializing in Labor Industrial Relations, played a pivotal role in shaping her two-decade-long career in various media organizations.
Kim embarked on her media journey in New York during the 1990s. Since then, she has honed her skills in the commercial, nonprofit, and public media sectors. Kim's steadfast passion for fostering equity in the workplace has been the cornerstone of her career. She is a strong advocate for addressing implicit biases and encouraging open sharing of personal experiences to nurture workspaces where each individual can flourish.
Throughout her career, Kim has held leadership positions in Human Resources, particularly focusing on Diversity. Her professional path has led her through organizations like BBH New York, Public News Service, and presently, Rocky Mountain Public Media where she serves as the Chief Diversity Officer.
As an equity trainer, Kim brings expertise in implementing restorative DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) practices. Her certification as a mediator underscores her commitment to fostering constructive dialogue and resolving conflicts.
Kim collaborates with and champions the cause of marginalized individuals. She aids leaders in discovering common values and guides staff members in recognizing how their workplace actions and behaviors not only influence their peers but also mold the organization's overall image.
Alongside her professional accomplishments, Kim, with her wife Alex Vaughan, co-hosts the popular podcast, "How to Be Queer". This platform offers invaluable insights and training focused on promoting inclusion for the LGBTQIA+ community. Away from work, Kim leads a lively, albeit occasionally chaotic, life with Alex, their four children, and two dogs. Yet, she adores it and skillfully balances her personal life with her professional commitments.
